Carmichael resident and Northern California racing legend, Johnny Anderson will be interviewed by Alisa Becerra on Fox 40 Live, Friday morning at around 9:40am. Johnny is set to be inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Iowa on Saturday, June 2nd. For a lot of us who know Johnny, and what he did on the race track, this is an honor that was long overdue.
Steven Tiner, a racer originally from Elverta, who now lives in Visalia, generously volunteered to bring his sprint car so that they have an example of what a sprint car looks like. The Tiner family as well as the Anderson family has been one of the premier racing families on dirt tracks in Northern California for 50 years now.
Here are the race results for Northern California Drivers competing in the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide, Camping World Truck, the K&N Pro Series and other stock car series during the past week.
NASCAR Camping World Truck Series
Last Weekend’s Race: Sunday, April 15th, the Good Sam Roadside Assistance 200 at Rockingham Speedway. Upcoming Race: Saturday, April 21st, the STP 250 at Kansas Speedway.
Matt Crafton from Tulare qualified 8th and finished in third place. Matt is currently in the 11th spot in the points standings.
Mike Skinner from Susanville is 42nd in the points standings.
NASCAR K&N Pro Series East
Last Weekend’s Race: No racing this past weekend. Upcoming Race: Saturday, May 19th, the Blue Ox 100 at Richmond International Raceway.
Kyle Larson, the 19 year-old USAC Champion from Elk Grove, is in 10th place in the points standings after his first 2 starts in the series.
NASCAR K&N Pro Series West
Last Weekend’s Race: Saturday, April 14th, the Toyota/NAPA 150 at Havasu 95 Speedway. Upcoming Race: Saturday, April 28th, the Utah Grand Prix at the Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah.
Trevor Cristiani from Ukiah: Another 17 year-old rookie, did not race and is in 34th place in the points.
Brady Flaherty from Wilton, did not race is now in 33rd place.
Justin Funkhouser from Paradise: Justin qualified 21st and finished a disappointing 22nd after a crash and is now in 17th place in the points.
Cameron Hayley is a 15 year-old from Calgary, Alberta and drives for Bill McAnally in Roseville. Cameron started 6th and finished 6th. He moved up 14 spots to 8th place in the points standings.
Eric Holmes from Escalon, the 3-time Champion, qualified 8th and raced to a 5th place finish. Eric moved to the 4th spot in the points.
Dylan Hutchison from Fair Oaks: The 17 year-old rookie qualified in the 14th position and finished in 12th place. Dylan is currently 12th in the 2012 standings.
Ryan Philpott from Tracy, started in 10th place and finished in 17th, 4 laps down. Ryan is now in the 10th position in the points standings.
Juan Pitta from Galt, failed to qualify for his first race of the year.
Jack Sellers from Sacramento:The 67 year-old veteran racer and team owner qualified 22nd and came home with a 20th place finish and is now in the 16th spot in the points standings.
Derek Thorn from Lakeport, won the pole and led 141 of 150 laps to get his first win in the series. Derek is in now in 2nd place, 3 points behind David Mayhew in the 2012 points standings.
NASCAR Nationwide Series
Last Weekend’s Race: Friday, April 13th, the O’Reilly Auto Parts 300 at Texas Motor Speedway. Upcoming Race: Friday, April 27th, the Bubba Burger 250 at Richmond International Raceway.
T.J. Bell from Sparks, NV started 40th and raced to a 26th place finish. T.J. is still 21st in the Nationwide points standings.
Scott Speed from Manteca: Scott qualified in the 35th position and finished 41st after a fuel pump problem caused him to drop out after just 7 laps.
Brad Sweet from Grass Valley did not race and is in 32nd place in the points running a partial schedule.
NASCAR Sprint Cup Series
Last Weekend’s Race: Saturday, April 14th, the Samsung Mobile 500 at Texas Motor Speedway. Upcoming Race: Sunday, April 22nd, the STP 400 at Kansas Speedway.
A.J. Allmendinger from Los Gatos qualified in the 12th spot and finished in 15th place. A.J. moved up 1 spot to 19th place in the points standings.
Jeff Gordon from Vallejo qualified 34th and finished in 4th place. Jeff moved up 4 spots to 17th in the points standings.
Scott Speed from Manteca: Scott qualified in the 38th spot and finished 43rd after an overheating problem.
SPEARS SRL Southwest Tour Series
Last Weekend’s Race: No racing this past weekend. Upcoming Race: Saturday, April 21st, at the Madera Speedway.
Ken Benhamou from San Ramon is in 20th place in the points.
Dave Byrd from Los Gatos is 19th in the 2012 points standings.
Jason Gilbert from Pleasanton is in 3rd place in the points standings.
Jacob Gomes from Manteca is in 1st place in the points standings after his win in Stockton.
Zane Lovelace Jr. from Roseville, a rookie is in 6th place in the points.
Jim Pettit II from Prunedale is in the 10th position in the standings.
Scott Sanchez from Livermore is in the 23rd position in the 2012 points.
Michael Sandoval from Ripon is in 14th place in the points.
Eric Schmidt from Roseville is in 7th place in the points standings.
Ross Strmiska from Stockton is in the 8th spot in the points standings.
Derek Thorn from Lakeport is in 2nd place in the points after his runner-up finish in Stockton.
Carlos Vieira from Atwater is 5th in points so far this year.
Justin Westmoreland from Merced is in 12th place after race number one.
