NorCal Car Culture Award Winners from the 2013 Sacramento Autorama

The 63rd Annual Sacramento Autorama, considered “The Kustom Capital of the World”, was held this past weekend at the Cal Expo Fairgrounds. The Aloha-themed show was blessed with perfect Sacramento spring weather and it appeared as packed with cars and spectators as ever. This year’s event was special due to the recent passing of one the Legends of the Sacramento Autorama, Butch Gardner. The Clubhouse was named in his honor and loaded with Car Club cars from all over Northern California.

The 2013 Builder of the Year was Gearhead Garage from Sacramento. Here is a car built by perhaps the most famous builder in Northern California, Roy Brizio Street Rods of South San Francisco.

The 2013 “America’s Most Beautiful Roadster” award winner was on display. This 27 Roadster was built by one of Northern California’s premier builders, Roy Brizio Street Rods.

So, a few years ago, my son Ryan and I decided it would be fun to pick our award winners for each Sacramento Autorama. The following are our selections for the 2013 NorCal Car Culture Awards.

1939 Chevrolet 2-Door Hardtop
The winner of the 2013 NorCal Car Culture “Coolest Car” award goes to this 1939 Chevy owned by Jerry Kjensrud of Sherwood, OR and built by A&M Deluxe Customs. We love this color!
Flamed Mercury Lowrider
Some of the coolest cars were outside in the drive-in portion of the show. This flamed Mercury wins the “Ryan’s Favorite Car” award.
1967 Ford Mustang Fastback
This 1967 Ford Mustang Fastback owned by Jim Cosce of Sacramento is the winner of the NorCal Car Culture “Best Muscle Car” award.
1961 Studebaker Pickup
This 1961 Studebaker Pickup owned by Chuck Prather from Coos Bay, OR and built by Tim’s Hot Rods of Rio Linda wins our NorCal Car Culture “Best Truck” award.
1983 Lloyd Sprint Car
The NorCal Car Culture “Best Race Car” award winner is this 1983 Lloyd Sprint Car owned by Richard Forsberg of Auburn, CA.
1940 Cadillac LaSalle
The NorCal Car Culture “Coolest Custom” award goes to this 1940 Cadillac LaSalle owned by Brian Nieri of San Jose, CA.
1975 Kawasaki H2 750
This 1975 Kawasaki H2 750 owned by Gary Snedeker of Woodland, CA wins the NorCal Car Culture “Best Bike” award.
1958 Chevrolet Corvette
The NorCal Car Culture “Coolest Sports Car” award goes to this beautifully restored 1958 Corvette owned by Jerry Logan of Hillsboro, OR.
1948 Oldsmobile Convertible
This 1948 Olds Convertible owned by Terry Henry of Sacramento is the NorCal Car Culture “Most Unique Hot Rod” award winner.

Sadly, the 2013 NorCal Car Culture award winners will not receive large cash prizes, small cash prizes or even a plaque but we do appreciate all the hard work, the time and the money, that goes into building these beautiful cars, trucks and motorcycles.
